Dear Everyone Who Is Receiving This Email,
As some of you know I recently participated in a Republican Party Caucus for my area. If you didn’t know that, well I did. The reason I decided to participate was I was encouraged by my family because I am not happy with the current political climate that exists. I wanted to try to make a difference by changing those who are in office to people who would seek after those values that our country established when the Constitution was created and signed. Brittinee nominated me for the various positions and I was given an opportunity to speak on my behalf.
I attempted to give a speech about the current political situation by stating that the people of the United States were being ignored by those in power. I ended by saying we needed to vote out those who were in power and elect men and women who cared about the American people and the Constitution. I was rebuffed in my attempts to become Precinct Chair, Vice Chair and State Delegate. I was nominated and accepted the role of Precinct Treasurer and as a County Delegate. This position gives me an opportunity to become actively involved.
As I have had an opportunity to reflect upon the results of the caucus, I have given more thought to what I could have said differently. I should have said that I work in financial aid at a local career college and as part of my job I meet with people of all backgrounds. Career schools actively recruit new students and many of the students who decide to attend a career school are not considered traditional students. Many of these students are older or have not been interested in having an education but are now actively trying to change and improve their lives.
There is a common thread that I have found with all of these prospective students, in spite of their backgrounds. ; people are who they are as a direct result of the decisions they have made in life. Obviously, we cannot control the consequences of any action and as a result, our past actively controls who we are and many times where we are going. We have to choose to go in a different direction.
Now is the time when we must decide on the current direction of our country and choose if we want to change that direction. I feel that the current government and those who have been in power are seeking for their personal political benefit and the fulfillment of their egos and agendas and NOT those ideals which would benefit the people of The United States. In a recent address, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, of the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints said this about what we seek: “…what we love determines what we seek. What we seek determines what we think and do. What we think and do determines who we are—and who we will become.”
What do we love? Our country was established with God in mind and that people should be good to one another and to follow the God given right of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” It has been said that we should love God, family, and country. It is long past due that we need to return to our heritage as of being a God fearing people. We must return to those most basic religious principles of “love the Lord thy God” and “love thy neighbor as thyself.” As we show our love for our Heavenly Father and seek to do His will, He will guide us to make those choices and follow those actions that will reflect His will.
As a whole, we have the obligation to uphold those principles and rights that were given to us by our forefathers. Men seek to usurp power and authority over their fellow man, but God seeks for the welfare of all men. At a time when religion and good religious values are not popular, we must put politics and the fear of man behind us, and put our trust and faith in a Supreme Being. Let us seek after that which our Heavenly Father sees as good and no longer follow men who are blinded by their own abilities and ideas. Let us truly show love to God, our families, and our country by finding and electing those individuals who will best represent the ideals of our Founding Fathers, and Americans belief in God.
